The problem we’re solving
When parents in Germany realize their child needs help with speech development, the path forward is clear, but often agonizingly long: The doctor writes a prescription, and then the waiting begins. In many regions, it takes 6 to 12 months before the first speech therapy appointment takes place.
During this time, parents feel helpless. They search online for exercises, try to correct pronunciation at home without real guidance, and worry that every month of inactivity will make the work harder later on. And they’re right: the 3-to-7-year-old age group is a critical window for phonological development. A lack of support during this phase has real consequences.
What SpeechyLift Does
SpeechyLift bridges the gap between a prescription and the first therapy appointment. It is a German-language learning app for children ages 3 to 7 that promotes phonological awareness through audio games children can play on their own: recognizing rhymes, identifying initial sounds, counting syllables, and distinguishing word lengths.
While the child plays, parents track progress via their own dashboard and receive concrete tips developed by speech-language pathologists to support learning at home. SpeechyLift is an educational tool, not a medical device. It does not replace therapy. It provides families with a structured and reliable resource while they wait, so that the child arrives at the first appointment with a stronger foundation.
We have a working MVP. We are currently onboarding our first beta users in Germany and are looking for a co-founder with a speech-language pathology background to help us turn this into the standard support program for families on the waiting list.
Your Responsibilities
-
Define and further develop the app’s educational content: games, exercises, and tips for parents, drawing on your experience as a speech-language pathologist working with children ages 3 to 7
-
Serve as the primary point of contact for beta users: families, doctors, and speech-language pathology practices
-
Further develop the product together with the technical founder and directly apply your expertise to product decisions
-
Actively acquire new users and build our early community
-
Participate in pitches, accelerator applications, and discussions with service providers and partners
-
Help shape SpeechyLift’s professional credibility, positioning, and long-term strategy
Who We're Looking For
-
A speech-therapist with practical experience
working with children aged 3 to 7 and a particular professional interest in child language. -
Confident in communicating in German with families and professionals: German does not need to be your native language, but you must speak it fluently and feel comfortable using it. Good English skills are also important, as we work in English internally
-
Someone who values a work-in-progress that reaches and supports real families more than a perfect version that never sees the light of day: what children truly need matters more to you than getting everything right on the first try
-
Resilient when things don’t go as planned: building something new is rarely straightforward, and you can handle it without losing sight of why the work is important
-
Curious about the families you serve: you want to talk to parents, understand their challenges, and incorporate their identified needs into what you’re building
-
Able to make decisions based on what you know, even if you don’t have all the answers yet
-
Willing to do many different things in the same week: reviewing learning materials, talking to a potential partner, contributing to a product decision,...
-
Interested in the idea of building something from the ground up, regardless of whether you’ve formally done that before or not
What We Offer
-
Time Commitment: Part-time initially, transitioning to full-time together when the time is right
-
Compensation: Equity now, salary upon transition to full-time
-
Role: Co-founder and COO, not an employee position
-
Location: Germany, remote work possible
